Older Americans Month 2022

May is Older Americans Month and this year Copper Country Senior Meals is celebrating with a special podcast series and a crowdfunding effort aimed to help improve our meal delivery service!

What is Older Americans Month?

Older Americans Month started in 1963 in a collaboration between President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens. Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country, in particular those who defended our country. Every President since Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities. Older Americans Month is celebrated across the country through ceremonies, events, fairs, and other such activities.

Support CCSM Equipment Updates

Each day, hundreds of older residents of Michigan’s Copper Country are served by Copper Country Senior Meals with delicious, nutritious and home-cooked meals. While we love to focus on Copper Country Senior Meals motto as being “more than a meal,” ultimately the meal portion is vital. To help make sure that the meal is as good as it can possibly be, Copper Country Senior Meals needs hot bags and coolers. Those are expensive pieces of equipment for the non-profit organization.

As part of Older Americans Month, we’re hoping you will show your support for our community’s older residents by donating money to help us upgrade equipment to deliver their food.

Equipment Needed

  • 15 Lightweight Coolers with Handles ($155 each)
  • 8 Hot Bags ($360 each)
  • $5,205 Total
